Commencement Ceremony

Wednesday, May 21

The Lyric Baltimore

  • Start time:
    • 10 a.m. (Graduate)
      • *Students must arrive by 8:30 a.m. for 10 a.m. ceremony to the Lyric basement entrance on Maryland Ave.
    • 2 p.m. (Undergrad)
      • *Students must arrive by 12:30 p.m. for 2 p.m. ceremony to the Lyric basement entrance on Maryland Ave.
  • As you may have heard, Artscape has moved to May 24 & 25. We will be working with our campus partners to minimize the impact on graduates and their guests the day of.

  • Start time:
    • Immediately after each ceremony.
      • Approximately 12 p.m. (Graduate)
      • Approximately 4 p.m. (Undergraduate)

Applying for Graduation

Please apply to graduate through your My UBalt Portal during the semester in which you finalize your credits ONLY. Deadlines are below to avoid a late fee with Records and Registration.  Students who apply, pay their graduation fee at the Bursars office or through their MyUBalt Portal, and are marked as 'Needs to Finish Pending Work', 'Program in Review', or 'Approved' will be a part of the listing of students eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. All these students will be emailed multiple times each semester regarding need to know information. These emails can also be found here.

  • Deadlines
    • Summer & Fall 2024 Graduates
      • Apply by Sept. 3 to avoid a late fee with Records and Registration.
    • Spring 2025 Graduates
      • Apply by Feb. 3 to avoid a late fee with Records and Registration.

Commencement Programs

  • Your name will be listed in the program that is received on the day of Commencement if you apply for graduation by Mar. 28 and are listed as 'Needs to Finish Pending Work', 'Program in Review', or 'Approved' by Records and Registration.
    • Any students that applies for graduation after Mar. 28 may still be eligible to participate in Commencement, if approved through Records and Registration. However, these students who apply late will not be listed in the program that is received on the day of Commencement.
    • If you would like to request updates to your name to be listed in the program, different than what is in your MyUBalt portal, you will need to email engagement@ubalt.edu with your request and use the subject line- Commencement Name Update, between Mar. 1-Apr. 1.
  • Honor Society, Military Recognition and Latin Honors
    • Honor Society and Military Recognition information will be received from those specific faculty or staff members who oversee these areas, so please ensure that you are checking your email and doing any follow up with those advisors as necessary. 
    • Latin Honors information is assigned using the student’s record from the previous semester. Since final grades will not yet be submitted, current coursework cannot be considered when making the honors determination for the ceremony. The final designation earned will be awarded based on the student’s entire record and will appear on the official transcript and diploma.
  • Are you unable to participate in your commencement and want a program mailed to you? 

Deadline to complete a Commencement Appeal to Participate Form is Jan. 27-Apr. 4 at 12 p.m. (noon). Apply here.

  • The Procedure for Commencement Appeals is if you are requesting to participate in a different commencement term.
  • Please only fill out the Commencement Appeal to Participate Form for the term in which you are wishing to participate in.
  • Please note that if you are approved to participate in an earlier ceremony, you should not apply to Graduate with Records and Registration (as explained above) until the semester that you are taking your final courses.

Commencement Regalia Information can be found here. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY!

  • Purchase regalia online by Apr. 12 for ship to store pick up on May 12 & 13 or by Apr. 23 for ship to home to ensure that you are receiving the correct regalia on time.
    • If you want regalia PRIOR to the in store pick up dates in May, please select SHIP TO HOME.
    • Regalia purchased ship to home will be mailed to you after purchase.
    • All doctoral regalia must be purchased online.
  • If you miss the deadline to order online, there will be a limited number of extras available for purchase at the Campus Bookstore: The Hive, 21 W. Mount Royal Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201 during distribution on May 12 & 13.
    • They will be available on a first come first serve basis. We cannot hold product, and we will not be able to guarantee to have what you need.
  • Cords and stoles for student or national organizations are handled by the individual honors organizations.
  • There are limited sets of reduced price regalia available for Bachelors and Masters students only.  The request form is open here on Mar. 1 and will stay open until all regalia is claimed. Doctorate students are unable to apply for reduced price regalia.   
    • You will be emailed if you are eligible to receive reduced price regalia with instructions to claim by a deadline.

Planning to participate in the Spring 2025 Commencement, or just want to get ready to celebrate? Grad Fest is a celebration of graduates that is held each semester that includes food, giveaways, graduate photos from GradImages (cap and gown supplied for the photos) as well as tabling from the regalia vendor and various campus departments. Sign up on Bee Involved as soon as registration opens. Walk ups welcome if spots allow. If you are a Summer or Fall 2024 graduate and attended Fall Grad Fest, you should not attend Spring Grad Fest.

Tickets will be made available to claim online via Tassel with Unique E-mail Invitation between Mar. 11-May 11*.

  • Learn more about commencement tickets here.
  • There will be an initial allotment of tickets, and extra ticket disbursement is not guaranteed.
  • Tickets are not guaranteed after the May 11 date.
  • These decisions are based on current health and safety protocols, venue capacity, and number of participating guests.
  • All guests entering the venue, including children, need to present a ticket. This includes children or infants of any age.

  • If you did not submit a form by the posted deadline of Apr. 25, please instruct your guests needing accommodation to speak with the Commencement staff on site for any day of accomodation.

Commencement is a special time of celebration for all members of The University of Baltimore community where we stop to recognize the exceptional work of our students.

  • Make sure your accounts are cleared – pay any outstanding bills through the Bursar- http://www.ubalt.edu/about-ub/offices-and-services/bursar/index.cfm
  • Return books to the library, if transcripts are required from other school at which you took a class, make sure they get to the Office of Records and Registration. 
  • Double check your address on the MyUBalt portal. Once final grades are posted, classes are reviewed, honors determined, accounts checked, etc., through the Office of Records and Registration, your degree will be ordered and sent directly to the local address as noted on MyUBalt. This process usually takes between six and eight weeks. 
  • You have access to the MyUBalt Portal for two semesters after your last date of enrollment. Network services access (e-mail, labs, Office365, etc.) is also maintained for two semesters after your last date of enrollment.
