We know how many questions can run through your mind as you carefully consider your goals, challenges, and as you strive for utmost success at the University of Baltimore. The Office of Disability and Access Services is here to support you throughout your time at UBalt, and we've got the answers—most of them, at least. Since we encourage self-reliance and exploration, we'll still leave some of them to you.

How to Register

Students with disabilities are not required to register with Disability and Access Services unless they wish to be eligible to use reasonable and appropriate accommodations.

The following information provides the steps required to become registered for these services.

1. Contact the office via phone, email, or in person to schedule an Intake with the director.
2. Complete the Intake form to establish the following:
   1. Diagnosis
   2. Potential impact of diagnosis on education
   3. Accommodations
      1. Accommodations used at a previous institution, if relevant
      2. Accommodations to consider for potential use at UBalt
   4. Documentation of diagnosis
      1. Students may upload supportive documentation directly to the Intake form, or they may bring documentation to in-person intake appointments.
3. Meet with director to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations based on:
   1. Impact of Diagnosis
   2. Previous use of accommodations
   3. Documentation
   4. Discuss the implementation of the agreed upon accommodations
   5. Director sends a follow up letter that outlines the accommodations with links to important documents based on discussion during Intake appointment

Things to remember:

1. Students can register for accommodations at any time during the semester but accommodations are not provided retroactive to the registration with DAS
2. Documentation must be provided at the time of or prior to Intake meeting
3. Accommodations are determined based on the interactive process that occurs during the Intake meeting (as required by both 504 and the ADA)
4. The intent of accommodations is to ‘level the playing field’ in an academic setting
