Combining theory and practice, this 36-credit Master of Arts in Integrated Design (formerly Publications Design) program integrates conceptual thinking, design, professional writing and research across multiple forms of media. Founded in the late 1970s, the program’s evolving curriculum has consistenly prepared students to adapt to rapid changes in the fields of design and communications.
How the program works:
You’ll focus on the four pillars of visual communication:
Your courses will help you develop complementary skills in design and writing across multiple platforms, and build a solid foundation in research, creative process, professional writing and design principles and strategies.
In your final semester, you'll have the opportunity to practice what you've learned through a two-course capstone experience. In Seminar in Publications Design, you'll work in a team to address a real-world design challenge. Using the problem-solving skills you've developed throughout the program, you and your teammates will produce a complete solution and present it to judges drawn from the professional community. At the same time, you will take the Portfolio course where you will develop and refine your professional portfolio.
You’ll graduate prepared to pursue or advance a career in a corporate or nonprofit setting, in fields such as web design, graphic design, marketing communications and public relations, to name a few.
Classes are offered evenings and weekends, and some courses are offered in the summer.
