Facilities Management is responsible for managing and maintaining UBalt's sustainability efforts, and we implement a prioritized, cost-effective approach to managing energy and utilities with goals of improving reliability, saving energy and reducing our carbon footprint. Sustainability impacts us all.  Whether it is a facilities, student, faculty, staff, or cross-cutting initiative, we call it UBGreen.  UBGreen fits our campus, benefits our city, helps the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and supports the planet we share. At UBalt:

 ub green

We're urban.

The University of Baltimore is a leader in smart and green growth. UBalt is helping to renew a great city without sprawling into forests or fields. In fact, UBalt Midtown is a growing cluster of jobs, homes, shops and businesses with UBalt at its heart, and it's coupled with multiple transit modes, a rich architectural history and a generous amount of urban cool.

Our close proximity to all of this activity ensures the speedy movement of ideas, collaborative efforts and capital within Baltimore's busy city center. We utilize existing space in a resourceful and environmentally friendly way.

UBalt is also serving as Baltimore's lead university partner to help develop strategies and goals to support the city's sustainable development. Countries have adopted a new sustainable development agenda and global agreement on climate change. We're green to the core: in academics and education

UBalt has an expanding Environmental Sustainability program within the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences. The hands-on program mixes classroom learning with field study and combines science, sociology and policy to provide the integrated knowledge necessary in an interdisciplinary, environmentally focused field.

As a student in the program, you can:

We shrink while we grow.

Our University is growing, yet our carbon footprint is shrinking. Through the application of energy-efficient upgrades in campus buildings and our increased use of public transit and alternative transportation—including high levels of walkability—we are meshing a robust local economy with the University's mission of sustainability.

The University of Baltimore has signed the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, along with 600 other college and university leaders. This commitment aims to reduce our impact on the environment by neutralizing the University's greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the problem of climate change through research and education.
