Pick courses that fit your schedule and create an education tailored to your vision and needs. Welcome to UBalt!
The Maryland and Washington, D.C., region is home to nearly 10,000 UBalt School of
Law alumni, many of whom enthusiastically mentor UBalt law students and enjoy cultivating success
in new generations of UBalt-trained lawyers. In Baltimore alone, the legal community
boasts nearly 3,000 UBalt alumni who are ready to support you as you embark on a legal
career.
Students pursue a legal education often with the intention of practicing law—advocating
for clients in court, helping individuals complete an estate plan or providing legal
advice in business transactions. Others may not intend to practice law but know a
law degree will help them achieve their career goals. A UBalt School of Law education
will prepare you for whatever career path you choose.
According to the National Association for Law Placement, of the Class of 2019 graduates
whose employment status is known, 65.6 percent found employment in positions for which
bar admission was required. An additional 13.3 percent of the Class of 2019 found
employment in positions for which a J.D. was required or preferred by the employer.
Alumni from the UBalt School of Law are employed in law firms, business and industry,
the judiciary, public-interest organizations, and government and public policy.
Judicial Clerkships
The University of Baltimore School of Law has a demonstrated record of success in
preparing students for highly prestigious post-graduate judicial clerkships. In fact, the University of Baltimore School of Law ranks third in the nation* for
the number of graduates securing state judicial clerkships, consistently sending between
20 and 25 percent of each graduating class into these coveted positions at both trial
and appellate courts.
It helps, of course, that so many University of Baltimore alumni are represented in
the Maryland judiciary—many serving on the bench and working behind the scenes. One-third
of Maryland’s current sitting judges are UBalt School of Law alumni.
Through judicial clerkships, our students develop a mentoring relationship with a
judge, gain hands-on courtroom and chambers experience and build the professional
credentials that give them a competitive edge when applying for post-graduate clerkship
positions with the region’s leading law firms, public interest organizations and government
agencies.
