Each year, the Center for International and Comparative Law accepts a few proven legal scholars or jurists as Visiting Scholars and Jurists. Given the difficulty of choosing among a large number of qualified applicants, we limit invitations to full-time jurists or full-time academics currently affiliated with a university who have a special need for our library resources in order to complete a well-defined research project in the area of international or comparative law.

Please note that our Visiting Scholars and Jurists pay a research tuition fee, with the exception of those who are funded through a Scholar Rescue program. Under our program, scholars have access to the Law School's library facilities, to the legal research services WestLaw and Lexis, and to the resident faculty throughout the UB community. As available, Scholars will have dedicated research space within the Center. Scholars may also informally audit up to two Law School courses each semester, provided there is room in the desired courses after degree students have completed registration.

The fee for visiting scholars and jurists for the academic year 2024-2025 is: $6800.00

Responsibilities of Visiting Scholars and Jurists

During their visit, participating scholars and jurists are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the Center and law school community in addition to conducting their own research. Past visitors have participated in a range of institutional activities, including:
