The University of Baltimore is dedicated to ensuring everyone in our community can fully engage with our digital content. We have adopted the principles of web accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium, and follows Web Content Accessibility Guidelines  (WCAG) 2.2   standard for web accessibility.

The University of Baltimore is committed to ensuring that no otherwise qualified individual is excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination in University programs or activities due to a disability. The University is fully committed to complying with all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and to providing equal access to all programs or activities to otherwise qualified persons with disabilities. In connection with the University’s commitment to providing equal access to educational opportunities for persons with disabilities, the University recognizes that individuals with disabilities may need reasonable accommodations to have equally effective opportunities to participate or benefit from University educational programs, services, and activities.

This framework is structured around four foundational principles that guide web accessibility: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. These principles are further supported by thirteen guidelines aimed at achieving the overarching goals of accessibility.

To ensure practical application and adherence, the guidelines are accompanied by testable success criteria, categorized into three levels of conformance. This tiered system facilitates the integration of accessibility standards into various requirements, including design specifications and contractual agreements.

Moreover, the framework offers a wealth of techniques, categorized as either sufficient or advisory, designed to meet these criteria. Sufficient techniques provide clear paths to compliance, while advisory techniques suggest additional strategies to enhance web accessibility beyond the minimum requirements. Documented common failures are also included, offering valuable insights into potential pitfalls and how to avoid them.

By embracing this structured approach, the University of Baltimore underscores its commitment to creating a web environment that is inclusive, navigable, and responsive to the diverse needs of our community.
