Even if you receive Veteran's Benefits, you can still file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We encourage all students, especially Veterans, to file the FAFSA to take advantage of federal and state grants.
Students eligible for benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA) should contact the Office of Financial Aid before registration to make sure all VA paperwork is in order.
If you are considering financial aid options, your financial aid counselor can help you make an informed decision by providing insight on the following topics:
VA determines your eligibility for benefits. The VA will pay tuition and fee benefits to the University on your behalf. Other payments are paid directly to you after the semester begins and certification is complete.
DoD personnel are entitled to consideration for all forms of financial aid that educational institutions make available to students at their home campus. Educational institution financial aid officers will provide information and application processes for Title IV student aid programs, scholarships, fellowships, grants, loans, etc., to DoD TA recipients.
Service members identified as eligible DoD TA recipients, who qualify for Pell Grants through ED’s student aid program, will have their TA benefits applied to their educational institution’s account prior to the application of their Pell Grant funds to their account. Unlike TA funds, which are tuition-restricted, Pell Grant funds are not tuition-restricted and may be applied to other allowable charges on the account.
For specific information and "to do" lists based upon status, click on the appropriate link in the left-hand menu.
**All awarded institutional funds, including grants and scholarships, are applied to tuition and fees only. These funds are nonrefundable.**
Note: We strongly recommend that you meet with Academic Advising and Financial Aid before starting your enrollment. This will ensure you are enrolled for classes required toward your degree as well as you have an understanding of your eligibility for financial aid (Title IV funding). You are also encouraged to discuss your VA benefits with your Education Services Officer at the VA before enrolling with UBalt.
We will not process any documents for certification until all required documents for certification have been submitted.
While attending UBalt and receiving VA Education Benefits, you should be aware of the following Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) regulations and student responsibilities:
UBalt actively supports our veterans and their families by participating in the Veterans Administration Yellow Ribbon Program. UBalt's participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program provides additional funding to out-of-state students, 100% eligible Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients who are not on active duty.
