The Office of Student Support is looking for Staff, Faculty and Students to serve as Trained Support Individuals:
Student complainants and respondents going through the University Conduct Process have the right to be assisted by a support person during any conduct proceeding. A support person is typically a member of the University Community, most commonly a staff or faculty member who assists a student providing support throughout student conduct proceedings. While students are free to select other individuals, the Office of Student Support has developed a process of identifying trained individuals willing and able to serve in this capacity, via the Trained Support Individual program. Trained Support Individuals can assist by advising students when making decisions, providing emotional support, sharing additional resources, and assisting students in preparing for conduct proceedings. Students are responsible for contacting Trained Support Individuals and communicating the type of support and assistance they would like to receive.
It is important to understand that a support person does not have a speaking role in conduct proceedings and is not meant to represent the student during the Student Conduct Process. However, support persons will assist students by:
Please Note: Conduct proceedings will not be changed or delayed because of a support person’s availability or failure to attend. Advance notice is required to allow a support person’s participation in a conduct process. A support person may not be permitted to attend the proceeding if advance notice has not been given.

Time Commitment:
Typically conduct proceedings do not require more than two to three meetings to resolve. Typical hearings and other proceedings are resolved in 90 minutes (about 1 and a half hours), though some cases may require up to three hours or subsequent meetings. Outside of hearings, the only other requirement is to take part in the mandatory training for all Trained Support Individuals. and maintain the confidentiality of all information discussed during hearings.

Individuals who have served in this role in the past report enjoying the experience and learning more about the student conduct process and the University as a whole. They also enjoy the satisfaction of proving support to students during what can be a stressful process. Additionally, many are also able to add it to their resume to bolster their experience.
The following faculty and staff have volunteered to serve as Trained Support Individuals as their schedule permits. They received training about the student conduct process.
It is responsibility of the student seeking a support person to make contact and secure a support person for their conduct proceeding. Additionally, it is the student’s responsibility to communicate with the support person about discuss how and what support they need from the support person. Please be aware that failure to secure a support person or limited support is not an accepted reason to reschedule a conduct proceeding or secure an appeal.
