October 8, 2020 CFCC will celebrate its 20th year at an event to highlight its successes over 20 years and to honor all the people who have helped make it possible, including law school personnel and students, judges, attorneys, national leaders and more.

October 9–10, 2020 CFCC and the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence will co-host a Therapeutic Justice Scholars’ Convening. The University of Baltimore Law Review will publish a symposium issue devoted to therapeutic jurisprudence scholarship, and Family Court Review will publish a special issue in July 2021 consisting of articles focused on family law/therapeutic jurisprudence topics.

May 2020 The University of Baltimore Law Review is accepting paper proposals for the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts (CFCC) fall symposium on therapeutic jurisprudence, set for October 9 and 10, 2020, in conjunction with celebrations for CFCC’s 20th anniversary. Deadline for submitting papers for consideration of publication is June 30, 2020. For more detail, see the Call for Papers.

February 12, 2020 Mark Bell, the Director of Diversity Initiatives and Recruitment, at the University of Baltimore School of Law, spoke at Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy for CFCC's Truancy Court Program. He spoke about his personal path to his current work and the importance of education along the way.

January 27, 2020 CFCC’s Truancy Court Program launches its spring term with programs at 5 Baltimore City schools: Academy of College & Career Exploration (ACCE), Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy, Furley Elementary School, Baltimore Design School and Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School.

January 14, 2020 The CFCC Spring Semester of the Student Fellows Program II kicked off with 12 Student Fellows. 10 of them are continuing their experiential projects working as clerks and in the restorative practice circles for the Truancy Court Program. Two will continue with research begun in the fall semester on family law topics.

December 2019 CFCC’s Truancy Court Program (TCP) held its Fall 2019 graduation ceremonies at each of the five Baltimore City Schools. At Furley Elementary School all 17 TCP students graduated and demonstrated at least a 65% decrease in absences and/or tardies. In total, 75% of TCP students graduated from the program across the five schools.

October 26, 2019 CFCC's former student fellow Alana Glover, Class of 2020, is one of 10 female law students in the United States who have been selected as Ms. JD Fellows. Ms. JD is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the success of aspiring and early-career women lawyers. It is also home to the National Women Law Students’ Organization.

October 3, 2019 CFCC’s Director, Professor Barbara Babb, at the invitation of the Singapore judiciary, visited Singapore to speak about a vision for their Family Court System. On October 1, 2019, Professor Babb addressed the International Advisory Council Meeting (IAC) of leaders in family law and justice worldwide as well as Singapore’s judicial leadership on the topic, “Five Years of Family Justice Courts: Sharpening the Vision,” and on October 2, she addressed the Family Justice Practice Forum, an annual gathering of more than 300 justice system professionals from Singapore, neighboring countries and around the globe on “Creating a Caring Unified Family Court.”

September 25, 2019 CFCC Student Fellow Caylee Henderson was selected as a 2019 Royal Graham Shannonhouse III Honor Society Inductee.

January 30, 2020 CFCC’s Director, Professor Barbara Babb, was interviewed in a story about the case of missing children Joshua Vallow and Tylee Ryan pending in the Madison County, Idaho, Family Court. Read more.

November 20, 2019 CFCC responded to a recent The Baltimore Sun editorial about preventing childhood trauma. CFCC’s Truancy Court Program identifies and addresses the connection between trauma and truancy.

December 2–5, 2019 CFCC partnered with the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts to present two family law trainings: Essential Elements of Parenting Coordination, led by Debra K.
