Welcome to the Robert L. Bogomolny Library at the University of Baltimore. The Library
is committed to providing the best possible service and resources in a pleasant environment
conducive to information-gathering, study and social interaction. Primarily serving
the students, faculty, staff, and alums of the University of Baltimore, others from
the broader community may have access to the facilities and materials of the Library.
To support and sustain the Library’s resources, facilities and academic environment
requires mutual respect and an expectation that all users abide by the Library Community
Standards.
Library users can expect to have:
A clean, secure, pleasant surrounding free of disruptive activity.
Reasonable access to library materials according to policy.
Journals, books, other library materials that are complete and unmarked.
Access to technology for the purpose of research.
Privacy and confidentiality in the use of services and collections.
In a shared resources environment all users have responsibilities and are expected
to be considerate of other users:
Observe the University’s Code of Conduct Policy, other applicable University policies, and all federal, state, and other applicable
laws.
Food and drink are permitted in the library in reasonable amounts with much care taken
around electronic equipment. Please dispose of trash in proper receptacles and notify
staff of spills.
Computer display of some material may create an offensive or intimidating environment
for some users who prefer not to be exposed to images they find offensive.
Minors under age 18 who do not possess a UBalt ID must be supervised by an accompanying
adult at all times and take responsibility for the behavior of the minors.
Mobile phones should be used only in areas where conversations will not disturb others.
Phones should be set to silence in study areas.
Post authorized flyers/print announcements on designated bulletin boards.
Observe copyright restrictions and principles of fair use.
Only service or therapy animals are permitted (in accordance with University policy).
The following are examples of inappropriate or unacceptable behaviors that could result
in sanctions against the person engaging in such activities:
Loud, excessive, and unnecessary noise
Intoxication
Threatening, abusive, intimidating language or behavior
Use of water fountains or bathroom facilities for bathing
Mutilating, defacing, or otherwise damaging library materials or property
Smoking in the building or near entrances and exits
Being in unauthorized areas of the library, remaining in the library after closing,
or when requested to leave
Opening emergency exits except in emergency situations
Possession and/or use of weapons unless authorized by law
Causing a disturbance or engaging in behavior which interferes with library activities
or users
Soliciting or proselytizing of any kind
Photography/videography without advance permission of the Library Director
Removing or attempting to remove library materials, equipment, or other property without
proper checkout or other official library authorization. Theft of library materials
is a misdemeanor under Maryland law.
Failure to renew or return library materials when due
Sharing a UBalt ID to allow unauthorized access to library materials and e-resources
Concealing or sequestering library materials or property, or personal property, within
the library for the exclusive use of an individual or group without permission of
library staff
Sanctions for inappropriate or unacceptable behaviors may include any or all of the
following:
Being asked to leave library premises
Suspension or loss of library privileges
Referral to student or campus disciplinary process
